Many people now choose to buy books online over shopping for them in stores every time. This is nothing new, and is not specific to the book industry either – just about every product you can think of aside from fresh produce has a very high uptake of online buyers these days. If you are still getting your books from “real” shops like Waterstones, or from the branch of WH Smiths at the station before you head off to work, here are some reasons why you might want to buy books online from now on instead:

Buying Hardback or Paperback Books Online

The advantages of buying physical books (as opposed to digital copies or ebooks) online are many, but here are some of the key ones:

You nearly always get a better price, and can get special offers if you order multiple books. While a lot of shops offer these, and you can get very cheap books from places like your local supermarket, online you can compare deals and find the best price on the ones you want.
You can check out reviews of the books you are thinking of buying on the same page you order them from, giving you a better idea of whether or not you are likely to enjoy them.
You can often read a chapter or two as a preview – it is much better doing this in your own time at home on your computer than when you are standing in a shop with the sales staff peering over your shoulder!
You can easily return the books if they aren’t what you expected them to be.
You can have them delivered to wherever is most convenient – at home or at work.  Many places offer next or even same day delivery depending on your location.
You can stock up on lots of books at once and take advantage of multiple buy options, which means you can save money and have a nice stash of new things to read without having to lug a lot of heavy books home with you.
You can find books your local bookstore might not have in stock such as older books and books by obscure authors.
You can buy second hand books more easily, being able to search for the titles you want rather than just seeing what your local second hand bookshop has on offer.  These are also much cheaper than you may expect.
